Brock Stoner

September 20, 1970 — March 5, 2022

Eagle Mountain, Utah

Brock Russell Stoner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Heaven gained a bright new star that night, as Brock was a light and a friend to all who knew him. His enduring faith, positivity, compassion, and laughter will be sorely missed.

Brock was born on September 20, 1970, in Dallas, Texas to Mark Russell & Sharon Thomas Stoner. As an infant, Brock’s family moved to Orem, Utah, and remained there until he reached adulthood. Brock was the third child of six children, and he cherished relationships with each of his siblings. Throughout his life, he recounted fond memories of his childhood under the shadow of Mount Timpanogos, and the time he spent together with his family.

Brock served an honorable full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Little Rock, Arkansas. Shortly after returning home, he met Julie Rae McGee. With their love in full bloom, Brock and Julie were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31st, 1992. Their dedication and service to the gospel of Jesus Christ continued to be a strong foundation throughout their married life together. Brock loved being a father, and is survived by his four children: Jessica (Barrett) Burgin, Lauren (Jacob) Taylor, Matthew (Kyra) Stoner, and Benjamin Stoner. He is also survived by his mother, Sharon, and his siblings Darin (Jeri) Stoner, Brendan (Cheryl) Stoner, Ashley (Erik) Stoner, and Graydon (Kristy) Stoner. He is preceded in death by his father Mark, and his sister, Tiffany (Michael) Drummond. A few months before his passing, he also became a grandfather to Roxie Burgin.

Brock graduated from Orem High School, and completed both a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Brigham Young University. He also completed a second master’s in public health from the University of Tennessee. He loved learning, he loved teaching, and he loved people. He had a positive impact in the lives of coworkers, neighbors, and church members.

Brock was a man of many talents and passions. He had great taste, constantly introducing his children to good music, favorite movies, and classic literature. Brock was also creative. He had an eye for design, and was a skilled event organizer. He knew how to have a great time and lit up a room. As a natural athlete, Brock played football and basketball throughout high school, and loved to ski as an adult. Toward the end of his life, he often fought his health limitations to continue to participate in the physical activities he loved.

Perhaps the most important part of Brock’s life was his deep love for the Savior Jesus Christ, and his unfailing faith in the Gospel. He served diligently in the church as the Young Men’s President, Bishop, and a member of the Stake Presidency. One of his most treasured callings was being a Primary teacher, which he did faithfully until he passed. Brock was known for a lifetime of putting others before himself and was never one to complain.

Brock was loved by many friends, family, and acquaintances, and his legacy continues to be felt in the countless lives he touched. He wished to be buried in the Orem Cemetery near his childhood home, looking up at Mount Timpanogos.
