Andrew Clair Ralph (“Clair”), 90, of Provo, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025. He was born April 17, 1935, in Franklin, Idaho, to Stanley Scarborough Ralph and Bessie Smith Leishman. He married Joan Burt on August 21, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his family and faith. He was known for his Christlike compassion, always seeking to lift others through kind words, never judging anyone, generous acts, and a listening ear, embodying the Savior’s teachings to love and serve one another. He taught his family the importance of faith, integrity, and hard work, often sharing stories from the Book of Mormon and the life of Jesus Christ to inspire them. Whether through family prayer, family projects, or quiet moments of counsel, he instilled values that will endure for generations. His love for his wife was a testament to his belief in eternal families, and their partnership was an example of devotion to all of us.
Clair served as a young missionary in the Northern California Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1955-1957. He and Joan also served together as senior missionaries in the same location, but named California Fresno Mission, where Clair served as a young man. Clair and Joan met while they were working summer jobs in 1958, located in Jacob Lake, Arizona. Clair was a gas station attendant servicing vehicles and selling parts, and Joan worked as a hostess at the local restaurant. Also, during their courtship, Clair would visit on an almost daily basis the ice cream store where Joan worked and order his favorite shake. His love for ice cream continued throughout his life, especially while living in Provo, by either having BYU Creamery ice cream at home or visiting its store in Provo, where he was known on a first-name basis. Clair and Joan continued their courtship while he attended LDS Business College, where he graduated in 1959 with an Associate’s Degree as a Junior Accountant. Immediately after graduation, Clair was drafted by the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. After completing boot camp, Clair and Joan were married during the two-week break before he continued his military service. After completing his military service, Clair continued his college education at Brigham Young University, where he earned his B.S. Degree in Business with minors in marketing and accounting. Upon graduation, Clair began working for the United States Forest Service in Provo, Utah. He continued working for the Forest Service in Ogden, Utah, and was later transferred to their offices located in Washington, DC. After a few years, Clair obtained his certification as a Certified Public Accountant as he continued working with the General Accounting Office (GAO) at the United States Government. Clair completed his career with the Department of Defense located at the Pentagon. Upon retirement, Clair and Joan moved to their newly built home in Provo. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clair also provided exemplary service throughout his life as a home teacher, Scoutmaster, bishoprics, and high councils, and completing volumes of genealogical records. Clair was heavily involved in Scouting, often going on many expeditions with his five sons.
Clair is survived by his wife, Joan, and his seven children: Deborah (Geoffrey) Lewis of Castle Rock, Colorado; David (Carolyn) Ralph of South Jordan, Utah; Deanna (Russell) Almond of New Harmony, Utah; Dale (Anita) Ralph of Bountiful, Utah; Darin (Sunny) Ralph of Midway, Utah; Dennis Ralph of Lehi, Utah; Donald (Jill) of Henderson, Nevada; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
