Sharon Joyce Stocks passed away peacefully on August 4, 2022 at home with her family. She is at peace after a long struggle with lung cancer.
Sharon was born January 27, 1982, in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Kevin and Donna (Chabot) Stocks, the second of five children and first daughter.
Sharon moved in 1983 with her family to Orem, Utah and spent her youth there, attending Cherry Hill Elementary, Lakeridge Jr. High and Mountain View High School. She then went to Snow College graduating in two years with her associate degree and then on to Utah State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree majoring in Geography. She went on to obtain training in Medical Coding at Bridgerland Technical College, a field she worked in for many years. Sharon loved to learn and enjoyed her schooling.
Sharon enjoyed sports. As a youth, her love was softball. In college, she decided to play football, and joined the Utah Avalanche, a semi-professional football team playing tackle football with full pads in Utah and Idaho. Later her sport of choice was volleyball which she played as often as she could. She enjoyed watching and commenting on college and professional football and basketball. She was a wealth of knowledge and opinion.
Sharon played the clarinet, alto sax, bass clarinet and the piano and organ. She regularly played for church services and accompanied vocalists and choirs. When not playing, she enjoyed singing in numerous choirs throughout the area.
Sharon loved the outdoors. Girls Camp was the highlight of her summers as a youth. As an adult she would often take off on her own to explore different trails in Utah. She enjoyed traveling and visiting the National Parks.
Sharon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was called to the Mesa Arizona mission and served throughout her life in many music and service positions.
Sharon is preceded in death by her grandparents Joyce & Ambrose Chabot and Dayna Stocks and her aunt Jeane Annette (Chabot) Allred.
Sharon is survived by her grandparents Joyce and Russell Madsen, her parents Kevin and Donna (Chabot) Stocks, her siblings Nathan (Kate) Stocks, Jocelyn (Vernon) McPherron, Katie Stocks (Joshua Medina) and Zachary Stocks. She is survived by her eight nieces and nephews: Alanna, Bethany, Adam, Calvin Stocks and Caleb, Hannah, Samuel, Tommy McPherron.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at The Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery. Our family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Nathan Rich and the drug trial coordinator Diane Houghton and the staff at the Utah Cancer Specialists in Provo for their tireless care and treatment of Sharon. A special thanks to Dr. Seth Riddle and his staff at Peak ENT Associates in Provo who went far beyond normal care in making home visits, texts and calls to check on Sharon. We also want to thank the team at Intermountain Hospice Care for their guidance and help in dealing with Sharon’s last weeks of life. To Lisa, Cassy, Dave, Mike and all other members of their team we express our heartfelt appreciation. Finally, we want to thank our neighbors and friends and extended family members for their love and prayers through this journey. Sharon and our lives have been blessed by the angels around us.
