Oscar "Dunk" George Larsen

July 11, 1931 ~ November 27, 2018 (age 87)

Oscar George Larsen (better known as “Dunk Larsen” to his family and friends), of Orem, Utah, passed away on November 27th, 2018, at the home of his daughter, also in Orem. He was 87 years old. He was born on July 11, 1931, in Menan, Idaho, to Alden George Larsen and Irma Green Larsen. He married Aleen Riggs in the Manti, Utah Temple, on June 24, 1960. He is survived by Aleen, his wife of 58 years; their four children and their spouses; and 15 grandchildren.

Dunk enjoyed all sports, playing multiple sports at Idaho Falls High School and a year of basketball at BYU before foot trouble caused an early retirement. He loved the “great outdoors”, especially fishing and camping. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, as a Cooking Instructor. (He often joked that he had to fight a battle every day, getting the men to eat his food.)

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including Bishop, Young Men’s President, and a long-time Explorer Scout Leader. His favorite callings were always working with the Young Men, inspiring many of them with a love of fishing and camping. He and wife also served for two years as Addiction Recovery missionaries at the Utah County Jail, and two years as Service Missionaries in their stake.

A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday night, December 7th at the Sundberg-Olpin mortuary in Orem (495 S. State St.). A funeral service will the held the next morning, December 8th, at 10:00 AM, in the Orem Park 1st Ward chapel (750 W. Center St.). Burial will take place later that day in the Hatch, Utah, cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that the money instead be donated to the LDS Humanitarian Fund (or take your family fishing).

(Request from the Kids: Please contribute a favorite memory of Dad. We will be making a Memory Book for Aleen from the memories posted.)
