May 27, 1928 ~ November 1, 2019 (age 91)

Obituary

John Kenneth “Ken” Balser passed away on November 1, 2019, surrounded by loved ones.  Ken was born on May 27, 1928 in Provo, Utah to Gladys Anna Munk Balser and Leo Steed Balser.  He grew up on the family farm in the Grandview area of Provo and lived an adventurous life.  In high school he was a star athlete and was involved in student government.  Ken graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946, and four days after graduation, Ken was headed to US Army Air Corp basic training in San Antonio, Texas.

Ken married his childhood sweetheart, Sheree Terry and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1947.  They made their first home in Vallejo, CA while Ken was serving in the United States Air Force. He was recalled to Japan during the beginning of the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1951.

After his military service, Ken graduated from BYU in 1954.  Ken and Sheree spent 3 years in Helena, MT and in 1957 they returned to the Provo/Orem area, where he has resided since.

Ken was a successful businessman throughout his life and enjoyed being his own boss.  This allowed him the time to spend doing the things he loved; raising his family, coaching baseball and spending time at Lake Powell.

Ken was an active member of the American Legion Post 13 and was extremely proud to have served his country as part of the greatest generation.  For years, Ken took care of Sheree as she lost her battle with Alzheimer’s in 2008.  Ken was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully served in many callings.

Ken started a new chapter in his life when he married Annette Barnes in May of 2009.  They enjoyed traveling to visit family and were active in the community.

He was preceded in death first wife, Sheree Terry Balser and son, John Keven Balser.
