Welcome to the memorial page for

LuDene Jolley Moon

October 30, 1939 ~ June 8, 2017 (age 77)

LuDene Jolley Moon, 77, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017, after suffering from a debilitating brain disease (CBD) for too long. She was born October 30, 1939, in Provo, Utah, to Lynn Bryant Jolley and Alta Minnie Gordon Jolley. Inseparable from the time of their first date when she was in the eighth grade, LuDene married Chad DeWitt Moon on June 5, 1957, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, just days after she graduated from Lincoln High School.

Together, LuDene and Chad created a beautiful life with their three children and eight grandchildren. LuDene’s life centered around her family and she was always planning the next family gathering. After their retirement, LuDene and Chad moved to St. George, Utah. Even though they were fulfilling their dream of living amongst the red rock, they spent much of their retirement years visiting grandchildren and traveling.

Growing up on a farm in Mapleton, Utah, LuDene learned how to work hard and she developed an impressive work ethic. She was ambitious and full of life, always ready to tackle the next big challenge, and she never left a job undone. Working in the yard was one of her favorite hobbies, and she loved transforming yards with her favorite flowers and surrounding herself with beautiful things.

LuDene was known by family and friends for her beautiful smile, her warm laugh and her listening ear. She knew how to connect with people in a personal, meaningful way and people knew they mattered when they were with her. Her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls are legendary among those who know her—countless friends and neighbors have been the blessed recipients of her labors of love over the years.

LuDene is survived by her attentive and loving husband, Chad Moon, and three children—Carrie (Adam) Kent of American Fork, Utah; Doug (Isabel) Moon of Mission Viejo, California; and Rachelle (Jared) Szymanski of Provo, Utah. LuDene’s eight grandchildren love her dearly and are feeling the loss of their sweet granny. LuDene was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Alta Jolley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Grandview LDS Chapel located at 1600 North 1880 West, Provo, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church, as well as Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

We express our heartfelt thanks to countless caregivers and friends, as well as to Dr. Gary Garner and his compassionate staff, who respected and loved our wife, mother, and grandmother throughout her physical decline and in her last days.
