LaVerne Eva Rushton Waite, 85, of Orem, Utah, passed away at home late Monday, March 5, 2018. She was born March 28, 1932, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to Stanley Ernest Rushton and Vera Francis Garrod Rushton. She married several times but ultimately found her true love when she married Glade D. Waite in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 22, 1983. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2000. She is excited about returning to her beloved husband as it took a very long 18 years for this to happen.
LaVerne was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1956 while living in British Columbia, Canada. She served in Sunday School and Relief Society and greatly enjoyed being a visiting teacher while living in Las Vegas. She gained a great testimony of the gospel. She loved to garden, dance, roller skate with Glade, and cook. Her ultimate passion was genealogy. She would spend hours every week working on her family tree. Some of her greatest feats were finding relatives in New Zealand and England, talking with them on the phone or having them come visit with her. She had an obsession for asking for and getting help from the students at Brigham Young University. She loved having them come and do things for her every week. She gained several friendships over the years with these students.
LaVerne is survived by her siblings: Bob, Marilyn, and Gerald; her four children: Vera (Steve) Darrow; Marilyn Gail Care; Susan (Marvin) Danielson; Tonia-Jean Sly; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and even one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Glade, a sister Jean Myrna Baker, a brother Jack Rushton, son Stuart Layne Fischer, grandsons Stanley Robert Livingston and Cody Benjamin Smith, and a great-grandson Ryker Reece Livingston.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Orem Park 2nd LDS Ward Chapel located at 114 South 400 West, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held earlier that morning for friends and family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. just prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. The family appreciates the love and support everyone has given us during this time.
