Helen (Gung) HenryApril 8, 1923 ~ April 14, 2017 (age 94)
Helen was predeceased by her parents Yim Dai Gan (Gung) and Au Shee Gan (Gung), sisters Irene Gung Eiser, May Gung Martin and Anne Gung Wah.
Helen is survived by her son King L Henry, daughter-in-law Gwen, Grandchildren Lisa Sou and Earl C. Henry. Great Grandchildren Emily and McKenzie Sou, and Christian Henry. Sisters Bonnie Gung Wong and Doreen Gung Wong.
She attended grade school and high school in Reno, Nevada. Unable to find a job, she applied and receive scholarships for the University of Nevada in Reno. Helen graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.
She met Albert Lewis Henry in Reno, Nevada, and they were married in Lordsburg, New Mexico, December 24, 1944. They moved to Michigan. Al attended University of Michigan majoring in music. Helen got a job at Department of Pharmacology School of Medicine doing research at the University of Michigan.
They later moved back to Nevada where their son, King Lewis Henry was born. Helen worked for the Federal Bureau of Mines for 35 years. She created a chemical process for separating microscopic gold from ore. Her name is on the patent for this process and is used in mining today, especially around Carlin and Elko, Nevada, and elsewhere in the world.
A viewing will be on Thursday May 4, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walton Funeral Home, located at 875 West 2nd Street in Reno, Nevada.
On Friday May 5, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., a graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, located at 435 Stoker Avenue in Reno, Nevada.
