Carol Genevieve (Hansen) BakerMay 8, 1928 ~ November 29, 2017 (age 89)
Carol Genevieve Hansen Baker left this mortal life on November 29, 2017, to rejoin her sweetheart of 65 years, Kay Lewis Baker, who passed away in October. A beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home in Provo, Utah, at the age of 89. Carol was born May 8, 1928, in Monroe, Utah, to John Albert Hansen and Caroline Henrietta Miller. She married Kay Lewis Baker in the Manti, Utah, Temple on September 17, 1952.
Born in her parents’ farmhouse in a part of Monroe, Utah, known as Gravel Bed, Carol spent her growing up years playing and working on the farm. She graduated from South Sevier High School in Monroe in 1946. After high school, Carol moved to Provo, Utah, to attend Brigham Young University and worked in a variety of jobs, including as a salesperson for JC Penney’s and as an operator for the telephone company. She enjoyed taking art classes and had some of her watercolor paintings displayed at a local exhibit. After two quarters of college, Carol moved back to Monroe to work at the telephone company in Richfield and Monroe to save money to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as an LDS missionary in the Texas-Louisiana Mission from 1950 to 1952, where she first met Kay. Shortly after her mission, Carol and Kay married and started raising their own family, living in Utah, New Mexico, and California. Carol will always be remembered for her loving kindness, charity toward others, her heart-warming smile, her devotion to the Savior and LDS church, and the many love-filled sacrifices she made for family, friends, and neighbors.
Carol is survived by her brother Evan Hansen and six children: Carl (Kathy) Baker, Kathy (Greg) Lee, Karen (Gary) Sumner, Craig Baker, Kelly Baker, and Ken (Denise) Baker. Carol loved and cherished her 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
