Shirley Wheeler Brailsford, 88, our sweet, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away December 7, 2012. She was born February 13, 1924, in Springville, Utah. She was the youngest of six children, born to Joseph Thomas Wheeler and Edith Mae Hutchinson Wheeler. She graduated from Springville High School in 1943, during which time she met her sweetheart Melvin Jim Brailsford. They were married November 1, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. WWII was on and while Jim was serving our country in Italy. Shirley went to work for Mountain Bell as an operator, which she continued doing for 32 years. They were married for 52 years. Jim passed away on August 1, 1999. They had a wonderful marriage that was blessed with four children, Linda (Richard) Tobler, Orem, UT, Russell Jim Brailsford, Florissant, CO, Bruce M. ( Shannon) Brailsford, (Mandeville, LA) , Janet (Phillip) Lowe, St. George, UT. Shirley lived a full and happy life serving others. She loved to have her friends and family around her. Most of all she loved her family and considered them the gems of her life. Jim & Shirley also served in the Albuquerque-New Mexico Mission in Manassa, CO. Shirley also loved genealogy. She spent countless hours compiling records and making scrapbooks of pictures and other information about her family. Shirley is survived by her children, 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Orem Women's Club, Yeshara Club, and DUP. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Sharon 3rd Ward Chapel at 445 S. 700 E. Orem, UT. Friends may call at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 S. State St. Orem, UT on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm., and on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 at the Ward Chapel prior to the services. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
